Red and winter weddings are a dream pairing. It’s a bold, dramatic and eternally chic colour scheme for a festive big day, and one that works so well against the historic backdrop of Hodsock Priory. If you’re worried a traditional red festive theme might look a bit dated for your big day, think again. We adore everything about this modern editorial shoot, which gives romantic red wedding styling a contemporary glow up.

The Nottinghamshire country house wedding venue

With its spectacular Tudor Gatehouse, grand architecture and sumptuous period interiors, Hodsock Priory makes the perfect setting for this luxurious styled shoot. Nestled on the edge of the Nottinghamshire and South Yorkshire border, our exclusive-use wedding venue is surrounded by 800 acres of glorious English countryside, boasting knockout 360-degree country views. It’s the dream stately home wedding venue, for a big day with lots of character.

The coolest red wedding flowers

Red wedding flowers are a favourite for a reason, but as this inspirational shoot shows, you don’t have to stick just with roses. Sereality Studios brought the ‘romantic, but make it different’ theme to life with an atmospheric mix of velvety roses, carnations and sculptural anthuriums for the table displays. We love the combination of moody reds and soft blush shades, to create a cool and contemporary look.

Red table décor ideas for your wedding

Caterpillar tables – that’s round tables placed in a winding cascade down the centre of a room – are having a moment. They’re perfect for creating an intimate dining experience and look amazing when used to fill a large space. We adore the modern aesthetic this surprise layout brings to our country house venue.

For the shoot, tables were dressed with crisp white linen, gold cutlery and classic sparkling glassware, with textured baby pink fabric table runners joining the line of tables together. A trail of tapered candles in fiery reds and soft pinks, along with tealights in glass holders, added soft, flickering light. The table numbers, featuring a cute printed red bow motif, brought a sweet, whimsical feel.

Retro wedding cake inspiration

Why have one wedding cake when you can have two? We love it when couples embrace their personal style for their Hodsock Priory wedding, especially when it comes to quirky sweet treats. This long ‘serve yourself’ style cake, covered in fresh fruit, makes such a unique and inviting centrepiece for your big day.

This Lambeth cake style is retro-perfection. Featuring intricate swags of piped icing, and toppd with maraschino cherries, it’s the coolest, vintage-inspired cake for a red-themed wedding.

Iconic bridal style

Hodsock Priory more than delivers when it comes to grand backdrops, and our bride’s statement Basque waist wedding dress looks dreamy amongst our period interiors. The pointed tip bodice, paired with a full tulle skirt, is perfect for brides who love a dress with drama.

If you prefer a sleeker style, this silk column wedding dress and cupped bodice is a masterclass in old money style. Or, if you’re after a cute outfit change for the evening party, take inspiration from our bride model and choose a white sequin mini for dancing the night away. Feather trim silk gloves optional but highly encouraged!
